Shuklaphanta completes the Terai trio. Named for its signature “phanta” — great open grasslands — it offers a landscape utterly different from the forests of Chitwan and Bardia.
The grassland spectacle
The park’s open plains hold some of the largest herds of swamp deer (barasingha) found anywhere in the world — a genuine wildlife spectacle. Those same grasslands are a stronghold for the endangered Bengal florican and a suite of grassland birds that specialist birders travel far to see.
Tigers and wild elephants move through here too, and the sense of space is extraordinary.
