Koshi Tappu Birding Immersion

Five focused days at Nepal’s richest wetland during peak migration — dawn boats, scoped wader sessions, and a species list that keeps serious birders coming back.

  • 5 days / 4 nights
  • Best Oct–Mar (peak migration)
  • Small group (max 8)
  • Easy

An honest word: Koshi Tappu’s numbers in the Oct–Mar window are genuinely exceptional. Exact species vary day to day with weather and migration — that unpredictability is the joy of it.

This is our dedicated birding product, on its home ground. Five days built entirely around the rhythm of the wetland — early starts, long patient watches, and the steady thrill of a list that grows by the hour.

Itinerary

Day 1 — Arrival & orientation

Travel to Koshi Tappu and an easy first afternoon along the embankments to settle into the wetland’s birds and get the list started.

Day 2–4 — The wetland in full

Dawn boat trips through the channels, walking transects across mudflats and marsh, and scoped sessions for ducks, geese, storks, ibis, raptors and the shorebird spectacle. Your naturalist works the light and the tide-lines, and keeps an eye out for the rarities Koshi is famous for.

Day 5 — Final morning & departure

One last dawn watch before onward travel, or extend east toward Ilam for red panda and Himalayan birds.

Good to know

  • Timing is everything: we run this squarely inside the Oct–Mar migratory peak.
  • Optics: we bring a scope; bring your binoculars and a notebook.
  • Extend it: combine with Kathmandu valley hill birding or an Ilam expedition.
